{"id":1447,"date":"2026-07-15T12:15:00","date_gmt":"2026-07-15T18:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.wenatcheeinsurance.com\/blog\/?p=1447"},"modified":"2026-07-15T12:15:02","modified_gmt":"2026-07-15T18:15:02","slug":"be-ready-for-apple-health-changes-like-work-requirements","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wenatcheeinsurance.com\/blog\/be-ready-for-apple-health-changes-like-work-requirements\/","title":{"rendered":"Be ready for Apple Health changes like work requirements"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wenatcheeinsurance.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/apple-health.jpg\" alt=\"Apple Health Free Health insurance Washington Medicaid\" class=\"wp-image-332\" style=\"width:320px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.wenatcheeinsurance.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/apple-health.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.wenatcheeinsurance.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/apple-health-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.wenatcheeinsurance.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/apple-health-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Apple Health is going through a massive change because of the Big Beautiful Bill that was passed in 2025. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wenatcheeinsurance.com\/blog\/washington-residents-discover-if-you-can-really-get-health-insurance-at-no-cost\/\" title=\"\">Suzie and Matt<\/a> have been lending a hand with free or low cost health insurance for years in Washington state. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hca.wa.gov\/assets\/free-or-low-cost\/hr1-noncitizen-fact-sheet.pdf\" title=\"\">Apple Health changes<\/a> that we will see first hand. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">No longer eligible for Apple Health After September 30th, 2026<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Asylees<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Conditional entrants<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Refugees<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Individuals for who deportation or removal has been removed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Victims of trafficking<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) self-petitioners<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Parolees, including:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Individuals paroled as part of the Afghan Allies Protection Act of 2006<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Afghans granted humanitarian parole between July 31, 2021 and September 30, 2023<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ukrainians granted humanitarian parole between February 24th, 2022 and September 30, 2024<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes, over the last year the Federal Government has put into place restrictions on who is covered by Apple Health (Medicaid)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Starting <strong>October 1st, 2026, Apple health<\/strong> will be limited to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>U.S. citizens and Nationals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lawful Permanent residents who have met or are exempt from the 5 year bar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Compact of Free Association Islanders (COFA)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cuban-Haitian entrants<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At Wenatchee Insurance, we do support <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wahealthplanfinder.org\/us\/en\/health-coverage\/who-can-sign-up\/immigrants.html\" title=\"\">Health and Dental Insurance regardless of Immigration<\/a> status. We have have lent a hand assisting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wenatcheeinsurance.com\/blog\/when-can-immigrants-sign-up-for-health-insurance-in-washington-state\/\" title=\"\">Immigrants gain health insurance<\/a> for years and continue to assist with options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">January 2027 Changes to Apple Health<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes, we will be looking at enhanced verifications in 2027, if you have an Apple Health plan as it comes up for renewal the changes will come into effect. Yes, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hca.wa.gov\/assets\/program\/medicaid-in-washington-state.pdf\" title=\"\">Healthcare Authority<\/a> has shown that it will be thousands of people in our area impacted by the changes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Starting <em><strong>January 1st, 2027<\/strong><\/em> adults who qualify for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hca.wa.gov\/assets\/free-or-low-cost\/hr1-work-requirements-and-renewals-fact-sheet.pdf\" title=\"\">Apple Health<\/a> must meet work requirements. The exemptions are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pregnant or in 12-month postpartum period<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Under 19<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Foster youth or former foster youth under 26<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>American Indian\/Alaska Native (AI\/AN) and certain Tribal Populations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Parent, caretaker, or guardian of a child under 14<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Household member of SNAP (food assistance) or TANF (cash assistance)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Parent, caretaker, or guardian of an individual with a disablity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Entitled to Medicare Part A or B<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Incarcerated or within 90 days post release period<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Medically Frail<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Alcohol or substance use disorder treatment (AUD\/SUD)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Disabled veteran with 100% total disablity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In a short term hardship<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To meet the work requirement you must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Have at least $580 in monthly income (or average $580 per month over a 6 month period)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enrolls in an Educational program at least half time<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Participates in at least 80 hours per month in a work program<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Participates in at least 80 hours per month in community service. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>or has a combination of 80 hours of work, community service or educational program per month average.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes, the verification is moving to twice a year in 2027. There will be at times that the client will have to call the Healthcare Authority directly for an eligibility determination or an activation of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wahbexchange.org\/content\/dam\/materials\/collateral\/ihc\/wa-pathways\/WAPathways-FactSheet-101525.pdf\" title=\"\">WA Pathways<\/a> policy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At Wenatchee Insurance we have supported <a href=\"https:\/\/suzieapplehealth.org\/\" title=\"\">Apple Health<\/a> without compensation since our beginning.
