Last May the 2027 Health Insurance Rates were proposed in Washington state. Our state does a great job in posting rates and during the decision making process consumers can comment on the changes.

Seriously, you have the opportunity to have your voice heard about the cost and benefits of insurance before the Office of Insurance and the Washington Healthplanfinder Board approve the rate increases.

Well the Office of Insurance has made their decision on the Health Insurance rates for 2027 and it has the changes that we have been expecting.

This is a considerable increase over double of the one that we saw in 2025. That was the year that the OIC had five suggestions on how to lower rates and our state legislatures did not respond. Insurance is a responsive industry and if no change is put in like cost controls then it will continue to climb. The Insurance Industry has a profit limit built in with the Medical Loss Ratio however the Providers and Pharmaceutical Industry do not.

The changes are average so one gold plan could jump in price while another one lowers to get to that average. One company may exit a county or shift a plan’s availability. It is why the Open Enrollment is very important during these big change years.

Open Enrollment is November 1st through January 15th

Open Enrollment is the time when you can freely enroll and change health insurance plans. If you have an Health Insurance Plan offered by employer most cases you will want to use that plan. The exception is when it is unaffordable.

check your employer insurance’s affordablity

If you have not worked with Suzie or Matt then you will want to change the broker of record on your account prior to the appointment. During peek Open Enrollment, it can take up to an hour to make this change.

Call the Healthplanfinder 1-855-923-4633 then request Suzie or Matt McColm from Wenatchee Insurance as broker of record and we can start assisting.

If you want the details of how to fire a broker this blog post highlights the details.

Appointment Enrollment page

If you do not see an appointment available then call our office at 509-295-9055 or stop by our office at Mission street.

Wenatchee Insurance Agency with Suzie and Matt does a good job on tracking changes to health insurance in Washington state.
