The Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires health insurance plans to cover 10 essential health benefits:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

  2. Emergency Services<\/strong>: Care in emergency rooms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Hospitalization<\/strong>: Surgeries and overnight hospital stays.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Maternity & Newborn Care<\/strong>: Care before, during, and after childbirth.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Mental Health & Substance Use<\/strong>: Counseling and substance abuse treatments.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Prescription Drugs<\/strong>: Medications.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  7. Rehab & Habilitation Services<\/strong>: Recovery therapies for injuries or conditions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  8. Lab Services<\/strong>: Tests to diagnose\/treat illnesses.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  9. Prevention & Wellness<\/strong>: Vaccinations, screenings, and chronic disease management.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  10. Pediatric Services<\/strong>: Dental and vision care for children.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    These are the core services health plans need to cover under the ACA. A health plan will have elements of these covered to various degrees. It is important for whoever you get your plan from to walk you through the coverages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The annual open enrollment period runs from November 1st through December 15th. Some states that run a state exchange like Washington can make a decision on extending enrollment periods<\/a>. If you don’t have insurance set an appointment<\/a> or call immediately so that we can see if there are any special enrollments that would speed your start date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
