Is Medicare Required?

Medicare Insurance is not a requirement, but it is a great idea. Most people choose Medicare when they turn 65.

Medicare Insurance Coverage

Original Medicare is broken up into 2 different components. Medicare A, your hospital insurance and Medicare B your Medical insurance. Original Medicare covers about 80% of your Medicare approved services. Original Medicare, A&B does not cover prescription medications.

To cover what Original Medicare doesn’t, you can choose a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plan to fill in the 20% gap, and Medicare D to cover your prescriptions. OR a Medicare Advantage Plan, (sometimes called Medicare C).Medicare Advantage plans usually have Part D prescription drug coverage included as part of the package. Medicare Advantage plans also can have additional benefits, such as vision or dental, that Original Medicare does not cover.

When can I enroll?

Three months before you turn 65, the month of your birthday, and three months after you turn 65 is your initial Enrollment Period.

What is the Annual Enrollment Period?

October 15th through December 7th, people can change their Medicare Advantage and Prescription plans for the following year.

When can Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans be changed?

You can apply for a new Medicare Supplement (Medigap) insurance policy at any time. If you're already enrolled in a Medigap plan B through N, you can switch at any time to another Medigap plan B through N. You do not have to take a written health screening questionnaire.
